I chose to walk

As leaders how often do we take the opportunity to pause, walk slowly and look around us? So much beauty surrounds us if we just stop to look.

After a powerful intention workshop lead by Melanie Appleman a few weeks ago, I realized my intention for 2023 was more than “Fabulous,” it was also “Being.” What I mean by that is to be content wherever I am. To stay in the present instead of worrying about the past or planning for the future-to enjoy the moment.

Today as I travel from an amazing family weekend at High Point University with my older son, Zachary, to Pasadena to spend time with a client whose mission saves lives every day, I found myself on a layover in Atlanta. I had a tight connection and should have jumped on the People Mover to arrive at my terminal faster so I would have time to grab a snack before the flight, but instead I chose to walk so I could enjoy the beautiful walkways between terminals in Atlanta-Hartsfield International Airport. And, as I walked I rejoiced in how happy my son is at his university, spending time with my mother in NC, doing college tours with my younger son, Josh, in the ability of my legs to move, the sound of my breath going in and out, and the animated conversations of my fellow travelers. I arrived at my terminal refreshed. I also found out my flight was delayed so I guess I’ll get a snack after all. So glad I chose to walk.

What are the choices you have been putting off that will allow you to live your best life? They don’t always have to be massive changes. Sometimes they are as simple as a slow contemplative walk between terminals.
