Join the Club

This week I joined a club I didn’t want to join. In fact, I accomplished an exclusive milestone I never expected. I was informed by Delta (whom I love) that I had become a Million Miler. I want to be clear that I am a loyal Delta Airlines Skymiles member and am grateful for the privileges they give their frequent flyers. For me, though, the challenge was how I got here.

For years, I traveled 50-80%. I did not draw boundaries and the lines between work and family became blurred. Today, in a workshop I cofacilitated with Teryluz Andreu, she defined values as “What we value most as defined by our real behaviors.” For so many years, I said my values were one thing (aspirational values). Those included family, couple, and friends, but, what my real behaviors showed, was that those were aspirational, and I was overvaluing work.

It took me almost a decade to get my behaviors in alignment with my values, and, in the process, I found my true north. Merging my aspirational and actual values created a joy in me that I could not have imagined. I still love to be in person with my clients, but now I do it in a way that doesn’t compromise my values around family, couple, or friends.

What are the clubs you have joined that you never wanted to join? What are the behaviors you want to change so you can live your values as opposed to aspire to them? Are you looking for someone to come alongside you in the journey? Please reach out if I can help.
