Fasten Your Seatbelts…
Anyone else have the feeling life is moving way too fast?
This morning our older son, Zachary, successfully defended his high school senior thesis. This is the first of his end-of-senior-year activities meaning we are just a few short weeks away from his inevitable graduation, and, not long after, we will be packing him up to head off to college. It seems like just yesterday he was graduating from Pre-K. I mean, I am not complaining as I definitely prefer his graduating to the alternative, but I just wish I could slow it all down so I could savor those kind, dark-brown eyes full of deep empathy and that Hollywood smile for just a few more seconds.
While the pandemic had many often-discussed downsides, I am incredibly grateful for the gift of time it gave me. I went from traveling every week for work to being home ALL. THE. TIME. We had family movie night. Family game night. Family cooking night. Family karaoke night. Family trivia night. Family paint-by-number night (not kidding). Family pour paint night (again not kidding). Family homework night. Family binge watch TV series night … etc. etc. on and on.
And sometimes we just sat around and talked. We have always been a very close family but during that time, we got to know each other again on a whole new level. We had time for deep conversations that we always had been too busy for before as we ran from activity to activity. We were able to deeply understand each other’s dreams. Here are a few dreams that came out of that time:
- My husband, Bradford Williams, realized his dream to work at Tesla where he is employed today and could possibly be the most engaged employee who ever lived because true engagement sits at the intersection of passion and skill.
- My older son, Zachary Williams, discovered his passion for international Business and is planning to attend High Point University to pursue his dreams at a school that aligns with his values and passions.
- My younger son, Josh, discovered his passion for engineering and cybersecurity in a STEM program that saw his learning difference (dyslexia) as a strategic differentiator as opposed to a disability.
- I found the courage to pursue my dream of starting Unleashed Potential Executive Coaching and Advising so I could focus full time on helping others achieve their dreams by unleashing themselves.
So, I guess in the end, we’ll do what parents have done for generations: Bravely hug our son, wish him well, and send him off into the world, trusting the lessons we have taught him over the past 18 years, knowing that within him are already all the seeds of potential he will need to succeed in life.
If you’d like to schedule time to discuss how we could partner together to help make your dreams for yourself or your team a reality, please reach out to me.
